SAN MATEO — Anisa Green of Clear Lake High School won the triple jump, the top finish by a Lake County athlete on Saturday at the North Coast Section Class A track meet at San Mateo College.
Green”s victory capped a strong effort by Lake County athletes at the meet. The top three finishers in each event advance to the North Coast Section Meet of Champions (MOC) this Fridan and Saturday at U.C. Berkeley. The MOC is the qualifier for the CIF State Championships May 30-31 at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
While Green”s finish was the best by an individual athlete at the Class A meet, it wasn”t the only first for Lake County. Clear Lake”s boys” 4×100-meter relay team of Kevin Burt, Seth Glazier, Armando Martinez and Travis Stockton topped the field in 44.50 seconds.
Green cleared 34 feet, 4 inches — her previous best was 32-11 1/2 — and was the only athlete to break 34 feet.
Middletown”s Myles Moffat had the next best individual finish with a second in the boys” triple jump (40-5 1/4). He also finished sixth in the long jump (18-8).
Three other Lake County athletes came in third. Clear Lake”s Erik Jameson cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, Middletown”s Jake Clouse finished the 200 in 23.70, and Middletown”s Nick Valdovinos heaved the discus 126-10.
While it took a finish of third or higher to move on to the MOC, a number of county athletes finished in the top six at the Class A meet.
Fourth-place finishers were Amanda Horne of Kelseyville (1 minute, 1.38 seconds) in the 400; Emily Beckwith of Middletown in the triple jump (31-11 1/2); and Stockton of Clear Lake in the 100 (11.43).
Fifth-place finishers were Kelsey Welton of Middletown in the 300 hurdles (53.20); Alexis Valdovinos of Middletown in the high jump (4-8); Green of Clear Lake in the long jump (15-3 1/2); and Eduardo Ledesma of Kelseyville in the discus (116-9).
Sixth-place finishers were Glazier of Clear Lake in the 400 (53.21); Mark Gonzalez of Middletown in the 110 hurdles (17.85); the Middletown boys” 4×100 relay team (46.09); and the Kelseyville girls” 4×100 relay team (54.08).
The top four finishers at this weekend”s MOC qualify for the CIF State Championships.
