LAKE COUNTY — A blaze of more than 3,000 acres in the Santa Cruz mountains was cause for concern more than 200 miles north in Lake County as area crews got the call at 12:30 a.m. Friday to help battle the wildland fire.

Cal Fire crews from Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma County had already left for Santa Cruz.

Lakeport Fire Chief Ken Wells said he was up all night helping crews get ready to depart in the early morning hours Friday. There”s no telling when the assignment will end at this point, he said.

Four personnel from Lakeport Fire Department, one from Kelseyville Fire Department, three from Northshore Fire Department, three from Anderson Valley in Mendocino and three from Redwood Valley in Mendocino left in time to arrive at the fire at 7 a.m.

“They”re on the fireline today. Their assignment is Madonna Park,” Wells said.

Cal Fire and area fire departments are on-the-ready for an early start to this fire season, officials reported.
