We”ve all heard or read about a person who lived a life of poverty, only to find out after their death that they were actually quite wealthy. The life of poverty was completely self induced, unnecessary, and actually led to their demise. When we hear these stories we shake our heads in disbelief of the persons insanity.

That kind of story reminds me of our nation”s present energy policy. We rely heavily on foreign oil sources for fuel. High gasoline and food prices result hurting all of our household budgets and our national economy. But it is all self induced. The suffering is unnecessary and it can lead to our demise.

There are huge untapped oil reserves within our nation”s boundaries. But our politicians refuse to allow drilling. Alaska has huge reserves. So does the Gulf where Mexico and China (for Cuba) are currently drilling. Our coastal waters have large oil deposits but we put them off limits to drilling. New huge deposits of oil have been discovered in the Dakotas and Montana. Will we drill it?

Can anyone explain why we and our economy are being forced into hardship over oil when there is plenty within our own borders? I guess that keeping all of those areas “pristine” is good enough for our politicians. But they don”t pay the price, we do. The price of “pristine” is just too high. Seems to me that “pretty clean” for those areas is good enough if it can lead to oil independence.

Is five dollar a gallon price for gas OK with you?
