LAKE COUNTY — A 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook south Lake County Thursday evening at 9:48 p.m. The epicenter was two miles from The Geysers, and five miles from Cobb, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake could be felt in Kelseyville, Lakeport, Middletown and in south county areas.
According to USGS, the quake was about .7 miles underground.
A 1.7 quake followed on Friday afternoon at 12:39 p.m., three miles from The Geysers, with a depth of 1.3 miles underground.
“It felt pretty big to me, it was pretty scary, my whole house shook,” Camille Levasseur said of the Thursday earthquake. Levasseur is the night manager at the Eagle and Rose Inn in Cobb.
“I had to go make sure my fish bowl didn”t fall over,” she said. But her beta fish was alright, and nothing was damaged despite the severe shaking.
It was the biggest quake to hit the area in 2008.
“I just remember little, little ones, nothing this big,” Levasseur said.
According to the USGS the shaking was light-to-moderate and no damage was reported.
“I was on Cobb, that thing was huge,” Michelle Claypool said, who has lived on Trinity Road for five years.
She said it was “definitely the biggest this year” and that frequent quakes often rumble “like trains are coming.”
“This one kinda lingered, the dogs even barked last night,” Claypool said, adding that quakes during the day time in the area often affect The Geysers, with extra steam released from the geothermal power plants making the sky above the Mayacamas mountain range look extra foggy.
