KELSEYVILLE — The Mountain Vista Middle School Youth Basketball Camp takes place June 23-27 at Mountain Vista Middle School in Kelseyville. The camp is open to the first 45 boys and girls in the third through seventh grades as of the current school year. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to noon each day.
The camp fee is $70 and includes a T-shirt. You can sign up on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the main office at Mountain Vista Middle School in Kelseyville or send the fee and registration form to MVMS, 5081 Konocti Road, Kelseyville, CA, 95451. To guarantee a spot you must register by June 13.
Campers should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Water and sports drinks will be available for sale. Campers should bring a snack for the morning break.
Head coaches are Elaine Sonneville of Mountain Vista Middle School; Bonnie Thomasson, former player at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; Paul McGuire, former Clear Lake High School varsity boys” basketball coach; and Tammi Mendonca, former Shasta Junior College player. Current Kelseyville High School players and former KHS player Emily Schaefer, who now plays for Cal State East Bay, will serve as assistants.
Campers will be instructed in fundamentals of the game such as dribbling, passing, ball handling, shooting, basic offense and defense. Teamwork and sportsmanship also will be stressed through drills, games, contests and scrimmages.
