LAKE COUNTY–Yuba Community College Clear Lake Campus held commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 23. The program included special recognition of several outstanding students and words of wisdom passed from class leaders and staff.

Clear Lake Campus was honored with graduating two of the eight students, throughout the district, who achieved perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Vicki Merrill and Sandra Magnan were both recognized for the admirable achievement.

Ryan McGregor was also singled-out during the Associate Degree presentation program. McGregor received his Associate of Arts degree on Friday evening and anticipates graduating high school in coming weeks. According to Campus Dean Byron Bell, McGregor is the first student to graduate with a degree from the Clear Lake Campus prior to receiving his high school diploma.

“It”s obvious we have produced some top-notch graduates here,” Bell said.

Student Body President Lynda Reeser delivered the student welcoming address. She advised her classmate, “Graduation is the end on one learning process and the start of another.”

Lisa Lehmer was selected as the student speaker for the program. “To this graduating class I say keep hope alive and make ambitions a reality,” Lehmer said.

Prior to the presentation of degrees, District President Paul Mendoza announced that there are 807 students graduating with the class of 2008 throughout the district. He added that of those graduates, 581 are female and 226 are male. He also said that the oldest graduate this year is 65 years of age and the youngest is 17.

“The awarding of your degree should not be the end of your education,” Mendoza told the graduates. “You should go on to see where the journey takes you.”

Lake County Publishing would like to congratulate Brenda Lax on her graduation. Lax has been an employee of the company for the past five years and currently works in the Penny Slaver office in Clearlake. She received her Associate in Science degree on Friday evening.

A list of graduates appeared Friday, May 23, 2008 in the Lake County Record-Bee.
