LAKE COUNTY — A puppy needing consistent medical attention was stolen from the Clear Lake SPCA after the Kelseyville kennel was broken into Monday night, according to Executive Director Kathey Crothers.
The three-and-a-half to four-month-old Bull Mastiff/Pit Bull cross puppy named “Tigger” has a condition “caused from puppy stress,” called Demodectic mange. Tigger”s brindle coloring is “kinda hard to see, because he”s pretty bald,” Crothers said, due to his condition. The puppy is the last of a litter that was brought to the shelter. The litter were found as strays. The condition causes a puppy”s immune system to go down, and requires special shampoo and daily antibiotics.
It was the first time in the nine years Crothers has worked at the Clear Lake SPCA that the shelter has been broken into, and a puppy stolen. She said nothing suspicious happened prior to the break-in, and she does not know the motive or why Tigger was specifically targeted. Nothing else was stolen from the shelter.
The shelter typically saves about 25 animals per month.
“We just want to make sure he”s getting medical treatment. It would be nice for them to return him to us to finish his medical [treatment],” Crothers said.
Anyone with information about the puppy can call Clear Lake SPCA at (707) 279-1400.
