KELSEYVILLE – Lake County Sheriff”s Department and Kelseyville Fire Protection District (KFPD) responders pulled a bleeding man from the waters of Konocti Bay late Tuesday afternoon after his daughter called 9-1-1 and reported that he had been run over by a boat.

The as yet unidentified man was flown by CALSTAR helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with severe cuts and broken bones in both of his lower legs and right forearm, according to KFPD Captain Sam Hukkanen. He said the accident happened approximately 400 yards from the shore.

“I don”t know if he was backed over or run over going forward, but he had gotten in the water and another person was operating the boat,” Hukkanen said.

Hukkanen said the victim had propeller strikes on both legs and one arm.

“This was like being hit with an ax,” Hukkanen said.

The man was believed to be from out of town, according to Hukkanen.

Fire Chief Howard Strickler said an engine, an ambulance and a volunteer were dispatched to the scene. The call came at 4:12 p.m., according to Hukkanen.

Hukkanen said the Lake County Sheriff”s Department is conducting an accident investigation.

No new information on the injured man or the owners of the boat were available afterhours as the Record-Bee was going to press.
