PHILO — Marcie Ann Long will display her paintings at Scharffenberger Cellars Art Gallery from Friday, June 13, through Thursday, July 24. There will be an opening reception for the artist from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Scharffenberger Cellars” Tasting Room, 8501 Highway 128, Philo.

Long has just been accepted into the San Francisco Artists Guild, a venerable institution of 50 years, which promotes artists in the most prominent parks and public squares, exhibiting and selling their original works directly to art lovers from around the world.

Long says she was originally inspired by color. “The emotions of color move me more than words ever could. Georgia O”Keefe and Vincent Van Gogh were my first favorites: they were sent to me on waves of color, each delighting me with their unique view of the world. O”Keefe”s canyons, flowers and bones and those brightly-hued skies sang songs of love, as sweet as any siren”s song and I knew I had to be a painter.

“Now it is flowers ? reflecting the traditions of Georgia and Vincent. I love the soft gradations in her work and the wild mixtures of color in his. Simple compositions, intimate details, repeating shapes ? especially interesting in flowers ? I want to see all the way into the essence. Colors are paramount and delicious. …

“I have enjoyed a painting studio, for the past 18 months, in the New California Gallery with plein air painter Steven Guy Bildeau.”

Long also continues her graphics business, currently working on design, art direction, as well as photo styling for photo shoots.
