The administration has orchestrated the turn of the screw, the swing of the pendulum. By taking advantage of 9-11 and making the power of the Presidential branch overwhelming, and congress diluting our constitutional guarantees, change is seemingly guaranteed. But we must not allow some of the changes to be permanent.
The changes regarding martial law, and habeas corpus must be restored to what the founding fathers wanted. Independent mercenary armies have no business on American soil. Blackwater nor any other private army should be allowed bases and automatic weapons on our sovereign territory. Blackwater is building their second giant base in San Diego, to complement the one in North Carolina. What gives?
I think Americans need to examine if our freedoms are still worth dying for, or if we want to revert to an oligarchical style of government, ruled by an aristocracy.
By allowing the rich to maintain billions of dollars over generations, we guarantee a permanent elite class. For eight years, we have seen the elite lie, cheat, and steal, just to maintain power. They have taught us about false labels, such as “compassionate conservative,” and “no child left behind.” They have made blighted inner city schools into poor step children, and deliberately wrote an “IOU” for the war we fight today, to be paid by our children.
The answer to the war on terror is to develop alternative energy, now. It was unconscionable that the Republicans blocked the bill to take the tax breaks from the oil companies.
