CLEARLAKE–Carl? High School honored its Class of 2008 with a bittersweet ceremony on June 11.
Touching upon a recent tragedy involving one Carl? student allegedly stabbing another off-campus, Principal Bill MacDougall said, “Our deepest and most sincere thoughts go out to the victims.”
A candlelight vigil takes place 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Austin Park in Clearlake. MacDougall is asking each person who attends to please bring a candle.
June 11 marked MacDougall”s last ceremony in the role of Carl? principal. Effective July 1, 2008, he begins serving a three-year contract as Konocti district superintendent. “I know what I will take what I learned here to my new position,” MacDougall said. “It is an exceptional place to grow.”
MacDougall reflected upon Carl? as an academically-challenging school that has a diverse student body. “We don”t just tolerate diversity; at Carl? we celebrate diversity.” He added that Carl? seniors had to accumulate 250 credits to graduate as well as complete a portfolio with three papers in it.
Although as in years past, the staff presented unique plaques to each of the graduates — funded by Easton Manson of Magoon Estates, Ltd. and Lower Lake resident Chuck Doty ? this year, Carl? seniors had a surprise for their teachers. Each received a one-of-a-kind key chain made by the school”s student enterprise, Pegasus Promotional Products.
MacDougall also received an additional gift, the accumulated wisdom of Carl? staff on another school-made plaque.
