CLEARLAKE — Bond-funded construction is slated to begin during the first half of 2010 at Yuba Community College District (YCCD)”s Clear Lake Campus.

YCCD representatives recently made an appearance before the Lake County Board of Supervisors to present a Clear Lake Campus update. YCCD boundaries include Konocti and Middletown school districts within the County of Lake.

According to Paul Mendoza, president of YCCD, 59.6 percent of Lake County residents voted to support Measure J in November 2006. It authorized a total of $190 million in facilities bonds, with the YCCD”s Clear Lake Campus receiving $17.2 million.

The YCCD sold its first series of bonds, totaling $9.5 million, in May 2007.

Projects slated to take place upon the Clear Lake Campus include renovation and upgrades to existing buildings and construction of a new multi-use permanent facility. The 30,000-square-foot building will include large classrooms, library, bookstore and one-stop student service center.

Mendoza reported in the Power Point that an architectural firm is going to be hired shortly to design the multi-use permanent facility. Design phase is slated to occupy 2009-2010.

A Measure J Bond Program timeline places a construction start for the “Clear Lake Student Services Center” between January and June 2010 with completion scheduled sometime between January and June 2011.

YCCD boundaries encompass school districts in the counties of Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, Glenn, Yolo, Placer and Butte, as well as Konocti and Middletown districts. Clear Lake Campus Dean Bryon Bell reported that during 2007-2008, 24 CLC students were concurrently enrolled in Lower Lake High School and that 25 were concurrently enrolled in Middletown High School. Bell noted that Ryan McGregor is the first CLC student to graduate with an Associate”s degree prior to earning a high school diploma.

Use of Measure J funding is subject to strict oversight. A citizens” bond oversight committee was formed in May 2007. Thomas Hewlett, DDS is serving a two-year term as Lake County representative.

The committee issues regular reports to YCCD trustees. Mark Bredt is currently serving on the YCCD governing board and represents Trustee Area IV for Konocti and Middletown unified school districts within the County of Lake, Williams and Princeton unified school districts within Colusa County and Stoney Creek Joint Unified School District within Glenn County.
