UKIAH — After a six-year hiatus Ukiah Speedway is bringing back motocross under the lights.

In concert with the 2008 AMA Outdoor National Motocross Series, Ukiah Speedway is holding its first motocross race tonight. Special lights are being brought in to illuminate the track, where competitors ranging in age from 5 to over 50 will compete on a challenging .8-mile supercross-style race course. Included in the event is a pro race that will pay down to five places.

Motocross is a family event that allows everyone to compete at their own skill level from beginner to pro. Entry-level lessons and help getting involved in the sport are available at the Ukiah Speedway.

Turn left on Ford Road off of North State Street in Ukiah to reach the pit gate. Admission to the races is $10 for adults. Children age 5 and younger are free.

Gates open at 8 a.m. and morning practice sessions, which are open to the public, start at 8:30 a.m. Racing begins tonight at 5 p.m.
