UKIAH — The Ukiah Speedway has canceled its racing program Saturday night because of the numerous fires in and around the Ukiah area, according to track officials.

Ukiah Speedway, part of the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds, is currently being utilized as a staging area and base camp for up to 600 firefighters. Many sections of the speedway are now being used by the firefighters, who have brought in camping gear, portable bathrooms and a mobile kitchen.

The All-Star Shootout between the North State Challenge Series and Westcar Late Models, which was scheduled for Saturday, will be held later in the season.

Racing is scheduled to return the Ukiah Speedway on July 4-5, with fireworks to follow. Modifieds, bombers, bonus bombers and bandoleros will compete.

An open practice is planned for July 3 and there is no admission to the grandstand area that day. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and practice will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
