VALLEJO — The Lake County Channel Cats sent four swimmers to a big meet in Vallejo the weekend of June 21-22. More than 1,000 swimmers from 50 teams took part in the event.

Competing Channel Cats swimmers were Anais Fay and Allison Hanson, who finished as high as first in a host of events that included freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Cameron Bell finished as high as seventh in his events and Sarah Merodio finished as high as eighth.

“Some events had as many as 70 swimmers participating and to place equates to being in the top eight swimmers,” Channel Cats coach Agustin Merodio said. “Knowing that each of our swimmers placed in this heavily competitive meet means that we are training well and that our swimmers are improving on a daily basis. This was a meet where we saw five swimmers qualify for the Olympic Trials in Omaha. It was exciting just to be at the same meet as some of the greatest swimmers in the country,” Merodio added.

To join the Lake County Channel Cats, please contact Jennifer Hanson at 263-3131.
