CLEARLAKE — The Lake County Community Co-op holds its next meeting, 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 12, at the Hot Spot youth center, 4750 Golf Ave. in Clearlake, next to the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce.

At its June 14 meeting, co-op members discussed the weekly Friday Night Farmers” Market that it co-sponsors with the chamber of commerce. The market takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. at Austin Park in Clearlake.

“Well over 200 people came in the first half-hour,” said co-op chair JoAnn Saccato, speaking about the market”s debut on June 6. The following week”s turnout was less due to the Lower Lake High School graduation.

The co-op has been working to attract more vendors and it also seeks volunteers who can represent the co-op at a booth for each of the farmers” markets.

A volunteer sign-up list is posted at the co-op”s Wiki site, http://lakecountycommunityco-op.wikispaces.com.

Rafael Montoliu read an article he had posted to the Internet about genetically-engineered foods. A majority among co-op members have voted to support a ban on GE foods in Lake County.

The co-op also unveiled a logo design contest organized by Alicia Farnsworth. An application can be downloaded in either Word or PDF format from the Wiki site.
