LAKE COUNTY ? Unhealthy air quality conditions may develop and continue through Saturday, according to a Thursday joint press release from the Lake County Air Quality Management District and the Lake County Health Department.

A 3 p.m. estimate predicted Lake County”s air quality would be 81 on the federal Air Quality Index (AQI). Anything more than 50 is considered unhealthy for medically sensitive individuals.

“Since we can”t always predict when and where pockets or poorer air quality may occur, it is prudent to be careful until conditions stabilize,” Lake County Public Health Officer Karen Tait said.

Smoky conditions can cause irritation of the eyes, nose and air passages, which can pose a hazard to young children, the elderly and individuals with heart conditions or chronic lung disease, according to the release.

Northeast winds brought the smoke into the county from the Lime Complex of fires in Trinity and Tehama counties, and from other wildfires in Northern California. The complex was 65 percent contained Thursday morning, according to a CAL Fire update.
