CLEARLAKE — A woman was taken into custody Friday afternoon after she drove a pickup truck into a carport structure at Cedar Village apartment complex.
Stacy Jorgenson was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence following the incident.
Police and medical units responded with sirens and no haste following a report of a vehicle rollover. When the units arrived they found an upright Chevrolet pickup that had plowed through the corner of Cedar Village”s carport structure into a parked vehicle.
According to witness accounts, Jorgenson, the single occupant of the vehicle, had been traveling south on Old Highway 53. When she rounded the corner at Clearlake Resort, formerly Funtime RV Park, she apparently lost control, went down a small embankment, crossed Ridgeview Drive and drove into the carport where she hit the parked car.
Jorgenson went down the embankment just left of a tree stump that was left behind after Public Works removed the tree last week. She hit a barrier pole outside of a residence on the corner of Ridgeview Drive. Frank Kimble said he installed the line of poles, which are telephone pole size, rising about three feet above the ground, to prevent vehicles from hitting his house. “You can see, she split one of them in half,” he said.
One witness on the scene said a concerned woman had tried to report Jorgenson for erratic driving prior to, or possibly as the accident was occurring. “There was a woman at Knott”s Liquor who said there was a woman in a brown truck driving erratically passed Mendo Mill and she wanted to call the police and report her. So, I dialed the police department”s number for her,” Donna Wynn recalled at the scene. “It”s so weird. I call the police for that lady at Knott”s and I get here and there”s the brown truck.”
Lake County Fire Protection District responded with medical and fire units, which were immediately released. Clearlake Police Department responded with two patrol units. No injuries were reported in the incident.
