CLEARLAKE — Two were transported for medical attention following a vehicle accident Monday afternoon. One individual required immediate transport via REACH air ambulance, which was requested from the scene.
Emergency units responded to the single-vehicle incident around 12:35 p.m. Monday. According to information gathered by officers at the scene, the unidentified male driver and a female passenger were coming down the hill just passed Redbud Hospital on 18th Avenue toward the traffic signal on Old Highway 53. It appears that the driver did not attempt to brake and continued through the intersection.
The white Chevrolet pickup involved in the accident left the roadway on the right side of the intersection, traveling up a boulder-filled embankment on into a Cyclone fence.
Lake County Fire Protection District personnel along with Clearlake Police Officer Michael Carpenter, worked cooperatively to remove the driver from the vehicle. The emergency responders were in the process of loading the victim into the ambulance unit as the REACH helicopter made its approach on the landing pad at Redbud Hospital across the highway from the scene.
The unidentified female passenger was also transported to Redbud Hospital for unknown injuries.
Clearlake Police Officer Todd Miller commended the actions of bystanders and passing motorists, whom he said helped considerably in rendering first aid.
Cause of the accident is undetermined and officers are investigating.
