CLEARLAKE — Bill Shields has joined the race for city council. Clearlake City Clerk Melissa Swanson confirmed Tuesday that Shields has taken out papers for candidacy.
Three seats are available in the Nov. 4 election. The seats are being made vacant with the expiring terms of Curt Giambruno, Joyce Overton and Judy Thein, all of whom are seeking reelection.
Swanson reported that all three incumbents have qualified for the Nov. 4 ballot. To qualify, candidates were required to gather no less than 20 and no more than 30 signatures. According to Swanson, signatures gathered by incumbents have been verified and all the candidates seeking reelection are qualified to run.
Shields obtained his candidate package on Tuesday and has until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 to obtain the signatures he needs to run for city council in the upcoming election. If an incumbent decides to drop out of the race, the filing period will be extended to Aug. 13.
Candidate packets are available and must be filed during regular business hours at the Office of the City Clerk at Clearlake City Hall.
