SACRAMENTO — Three Lake County Special Olympics golf teams came home with medals and Dennis Cooley won an individual bronze during a regional competition on July 28 at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento.
Steve Wade teamed up with instructor Dena Ebinger to win the gold medal in the alternate shot team competition. Zack Tichava and instructor Art Tichava brought home a silver medal, and Daniel Cooley and instructor Phil Spooner won the bronze medal.
Two other Lake County teams secured fourth-place ribbons. They were Eric Saderlund and instructor Robert Saderland, and David Dow and instructor Joni Canevari.
The Wade-Ebinger and Spooner-Daniel Cooley teams advance to the NorCal Special Olympic Championships on Aug. 18 in Walnut Creek. Dennis Cooley also advances in the individual competition.
Rob Roy Golf Course on Cobb Mountain has served as the training site of the Special Olympics golfers, according to Ebinger, who said practices take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Winning a gold medal at the regional competition in Sacramento along with her 64-year-old student Wade was quite a thrill, according to Ebinger.
“I”m really proud of him,” Ebinger said.
