The love Bush, pro-war, anti-liberal letter from Mr. Stankiewicz in the Record-Bee”s July 25 edition is sadly misguided. In attempting to justify the tragic war in Iraq, he states that we are “taking the war to the enemy”Al Qaeda. He ignores the fact that there were no Al Qaeda in Iraq until we invaded that sovereign nation on false pretenses for nonexistent weapons of mass distraction, an action that only increased Al Qaeda recruitment appeal worldwide.

If Mr. Stankiewicz truly wants to take the war to the enemy, he would be better advised to invade Bush”s good friends the Saudis, where 13 of the 16 hijackers of Sept. 11 came from ? zero from Iraq ? and where the bin Laden family is from, and where most of Al Qaeda”s money comes from. The same Saudi Arabia that last year suddenly released 1500 Al Qaeda prisoner on their promises to stop being terrorists. The same Saudi Arabia that refuses to give us a break on soaring oil prices.

Mr. Stankiewicz goes on to fault “liberal Democrats” for being worried about the staggering deficit that this war is producing ? over $3 billion a week ? and for “voting for leaders whom will raise taxes.”

How else does Mr. Stankiewicz propose to pay off this deficit? His reference to the Economic Stimulus fiction seems to ignore the facts that (1) it didn”t work, and (2) we have gone further in debt (much going to Communist China) to finance it, making it all the more necessary to raise taxes.

Al Oaeda may be crazy, but they”re not stupid. While they know that nobody can beat the United States military ? we spend more on the military than the next 10 nations combined ? they know that bankrupting our country produce the same result, and thanks to thinking such as Mr. Bush”s and Mr Standiewicz”s, they are succeeding.
