Why are readers spending so much time on gays? Being gay isn”t catching. Besides, laws and court cases guarantee gay rights: ?tis the Zeitgeist in the 21st century.
Besides whatever anyone has to say about Gays, they have made tremendous contributions to our culture. Consider Walt Whitman, James Dickey, Allen Ginsberg Truman Capote, James Baldwin, and Gore Vidal to name just a few writers. In the performing arts, Leonard Berstein, Rudolph Nureyev, Rock Hudson, and many others.
Does the sexuality of these artists reduce their contribution to the humanities? Hardly. So, we heterosexuals should stop bemoaning Gay rights, and Gays should stop acting like victims. Both groups, including this writer, ought to stop wasting writing space and deal with important local issues.
