I am unsure how aware the City of Lakeport has made it to the public, but I am completely appalled that Lakeport”s City Council has dropped their contract with Lake County”s Animal Care and Control. I realize the city has certain budgets they need to stay within, but I completely disagree with dropping the funding to maintain animal care and safety in the city limits of Lakeport.
The County”s Animal Care and Control is still available to the surrounding areas in Lake County. Our local law enforcement agency is now in charge of dealing with the responsibilities of animals in the City of Lakeport. I believe the Lakeport Police Department, along with the Sheriff Department, have more serious situations to handle.
Animal Control was made for the purpose of maintaining animal safety and to enforce animal rules/regulations. The police department is available to the needs and safety of humans. I am just curious as to what Lakeport Police Department will do when they have a serious 911 call, but they are unavailable, because they have to pick up a dog that was hit by a car on Main Street in Lakeport? Our law enforcement is going to be too involved with animal care to maintain the safety of our city.
We need the County to help with our animal problems. Animal Care and Control is truly needed in the city limits of Lakeport, and I really hope City Council revises their budget in order to re-sign their contract with the County”s Animal Care and Control.
