ALBANY — The Middle-town-Cobb Little League 9-and-under baseball team finished third in the Albany Invitational held last month in Albany.

Middletown ran into the likes of San Ramon, Danville, Santa Rosa and the host team Albany during tournament play. Middletown beat Santa 10-1 and San Ramon 3-1 and lost 10-8 to Albany and 6-4 to Danville, the latter loss keeping them from advancing to the championship game.

Among the Middletown standouts were pitcher Marcus Hollingsworth, who tossed six shutout innings, struck out 14 batters and walked none. Another Middletown pitcher, Kameron Swank, allowed only one earned run in his six innings of pitching while striking out nine, and pitcher Tyler Fleenor allowed just one run against Santa Rosa.

Middletown”s defense also got into the act, allowing just one error over its final three games.

Middletown”s leading hitters were Hollingsworth with a triple, a home run and seven RBIs; Swank, who batted .555 in the leadoff spot; and Ty Rasmussen, who batted .500 and hit two triples, one of them driving in the winning runs in a victory over San Ramon. J.P. Fenk and Trevor LaFave each added two-run doubles.

Head coaches Dan Rasmussen and Mark Hollingsworth credited the squad”s success to a total team effort and its hard work and preparation during the season.
