LAKEPORT — Clear Lake High School”s offense clicked to the tune of 14 goals on Tuesday as the offense-starved Cardinals rolled past the Calistoga Wildcats 14-0 in a non-league varsity girls” soccer game at Lakeport.
“We needed a breakout game,” Clear Lake co-coach Paul Larrea said after the Cardinals were held to a single goal in three games on Friday and Saturday at the Arcata Tournament.
“We played some pretty tough schools up there,” Larrea said of Class 3A opponents Sonoma Valley, Eureka and Fortuna.
Clear Lake dropped a 3-0 decision to Sonoma Valley on Friday, fell 5-1 to Eureka early Saturday and then tied Fortuna 0-0 on Saturday afternoon.
On Tuesday, the Cardinals had no problem finding the net against Calistoga. They scored seven times in each half and all six of the forwards on Clear Lake”s roster registered at least one goal.
“We were rotating our six forwards in and out,” Larrea said.
Seven different Clear Lake players reached the scoring column, led by Elena Tipton”s four goals and two each from Kathleen O”Rourke, Anisa Green, Annie Gall and Telia Taskaly. Briana Martinez added a goal and three assists and Tara Bastian also had three assists.
Clear Lake”s midfield and defense also did its part, according to Larrea, by keeping the ball on Calistoga”s end of the field most of the day. The Wildcats had only three shots on goal.
Against Eureka on Saturday, Logan Brodnansky scored the Cardinals” lone goal.
Clear Lake takes a 2-2-1 record into this Saturday”s home game against Roseland Prep.
