Konocti employees” footprints, accompanied by personal messages, will be on display this year in the district conference room.
At a district breakfast held Friday, Aug. 29, Superintendent Bill MacDougall urged everyone present that the district has to change the prevailing culture that exists in the community as well as the school culture. “Language shapes thought,” he said, adding that communication needs to be positive and motivated.
MacDougall said the district is lean with the majority of its resources channeled to school sites where the children are. “If we are to succeed, we will succeed as a client-based organization,” MacDougall said.
MacDougall apologized for the district having issued layoff notices earlier this year while factors were constantly changing in regard to which jobs would be eliminated. District contracts require a certain lead time for issuing these notices but as one person would leave a job, the configuration would change. MacDougall described these circumstances as a constantly reshuffling deck of cards.
MacDougall invited all district employees to trace a footprint and write a message on the roll of paper he”d spread out on the floor, asking them what kind of mark they would like to leave for their students. MacDougall said the paper will ring the meeting room.
