Members of the Konocti schools community toured the new Lower Lake High School gymnasium on Friday, Aug. 29.
“The completion date is a floating target,” said Dana Moore, director of maintenance and operations, adding that the district is hoping for late November or early December.
The gymnasium occupies 2,600 square feet. Moore said it is centrally located for all athletic areas on the campus.
The gymnasium will seat 1,200 ? 600 to a side ? on its retractable bleachers that will run the length of the gymnasium. Its capacity will meet seating requirements for hosting a North Central League playoff game.
Moore said that if chairs are placed on the gymnasium floor for a staged production, its seating capacity will increase to 1,700 people.
Funding for the new gymnasium comes from Measure G, which was approved by district voters in November 2004. Measure G authorizes $18.5 million in bonds for renovation, repair, modernization and construction. The district authorized issuing the third and final series of bonds Sept. 5, 2007.
Moore said the existing Carl Delgado Gymnasium is going to remain intact. What is now the boys” locker room will become a fitness center.
