REDWOOD CITY — The Mendocino Eagles played a strong second half but couldn”t catch Canada College, falling 2-1 in women”s soccer action on Wednesday in Redwood City.
“We didn”t play very well in the first half,” Mendocino College assistant coach Pat Hart said. “But we came out in the second half and picked up our heads and showed the kind of team we”ve been all season.”
It was the first loss for Mendocino (3-1).
The Eagles trailed 2-0 after the first half. The Eagles finally broke through on Julie Jackson”s goal midway through the second half. Arisbeth Lopez assisted on the score.
Mendocino had two prime scoring opportunities to pull even late in the second half only to be denied.
“We had a couple of balls go off the woodwork,” Hart said. “We had our chances.”
One of those shots came off the foot of Jackson, the former Clear Lake High School star. Jackson is one of seven former Lake County players on Mendocino College”s roster
The Eagles return to action Saturday at home against San Francisco City College at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the Mendocino game, College of the Redwoods will square off against Los Medanos at 1:30 p.m.
