UPPER LAKE — The high school football season is arriving a little earlier than planned in Lake County.
Because of a scheduling conflict, Upper Lake High School has moved up its season and home opener against the Potter Valley Bearcats to this Saturday instead of Saturday, Sept. 13. Junior varsity action kicks off at 1 p.m. and the varsity game follows.
The problem arose because of the extra week built into this year”s high school schedule. Most of the small school teams around the Redwood Empire elected to use that extra week to prepare for their season openers the weekend of Sept. 12-13, however, a few teams elected to start earlier and take a bye week somewhere down the line. Upper Lake will now have a bye the weekend of Sept. 12-13.
The Cougars defeated the Bearcats 27-0 in last year”s season opener at Potter Valley.
Upper Lake”s game on Saturday means that the Cougars will not participate in today”s Lake County Scrimmage at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport. Junior varsity and varsity teams from Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Lower Lake and Middletown will take part in the annual event.
All of Lake County”s football teams will be previewed in the Fall Sports 2008 section, which will appear as a supplement in the Friday, Sept. 12 edition of the Record-Bee. The Record-Bee”s first Football Friday page will appear that same day.
