ARBUCKLE — Experience shows. So does inexperience.
With only one returning starter back from last year”s championship squad, the Clear Lake High School junior varsity football team fell 50-12 to the Pierce Bears on Friday night in Arbuckle.
Eddie Todd rushed for 88 yards to lead the Cardinals (1-0), who were making their season debut against a Pierce team playing in its third game. Kyle Swartz rushed for 30 yards and also had 34 receiving yards while scoring a touchdown. Brendon McQueen added 21 yards on the ground and had the Cardinals” other TD.
McQueen also anchored the defense with a team-leading seven tackles. Kevin Allen had six tackles and Thomas McGann recovered a fumble.
“We did see improvement every quarter and as a coach that”s what we like to see,” Clear Lake coach Gary Milhaupt said.
