WALNUT CREEK — Steve Boatright and Jeromy Steele scored on runs and Jay Dedrick caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Jake Youngs on Saturday, but the Kelseyville Knights came out on the short end of a 39-22 decision to Berean Christian in a non-league junior varsity football game at Walnut Creek.
It was the season opener for coach Rob Ishihara”s young Knights (0-1), who play several freshmen both ways, and the second game for the Eagles.
Boatright scampered 65 yards on a counter play for his touchdown. Steele scored on a 1-yard plunge in the fourth quarter. Antonio Cortez kicked two extra points for the Knights and Youngs also had a two-point conversion run.
Kelseyville played relatively mistake-free football and committed just three penalties, according to Ishihara.
Middle linebacker Ethan Rohner had two sacks and led the Knights in total tackles.
