It is amazing to me how the announcement of John McCain”s pick for Vice President has riled the Democrats. I couldn”t resist writing my own thoughts to the editor after reading Nancy William”s view (Record-Bee, Sept. 9). Nancy writes” we haven”t heard Palin”s views on education or health care or foreign policy or economics”.

I would say that Nancy had never heard of the Governor from Alaska until 11 days ago. It sort of reminds be of that Governor from Arkansas we elected president 16 years ago. I can only assume what Nancy states, about Governor Palin, she has heard from the TV news network she listens to or perhaps the newspapers or tabloids she reads.

Nancy states that Governor Palin is pandering to the oil industry. I guess she didn”t know Governor Palin slapped a big oil tax on the oil companies operating in Alaska, and used the proceeds to send a check back to every citizen in her state to help with their energy needs.

Or that she tore up the back-room deal to build the Alaskan pipe line, negotiated by Governor Murkowski, with Exxon, BP and ConocoPhillips and put it out to open bidding. Nancy mentions Governor Palin”s “flip flop” on the Bridge to Nowhere. Will I don”t know about everyone else, but I think it is a sign of good leadership; after all facts are considered, that decisions are made based on what is best for the city, county, state or country that an elected official represents. If points of view are set in stone, we the people, are in serious trouble.

The Alaskans, the very people she governs say Sarah Palin has a proven record of reform and an 80% approval rating in her state, but then maybe those Alaskans just have their heads buried in all that snow. Yes it is true, Governor Palin is the CEO of a large state with a small population. And she is running for Vice President. Senator Barack Obama is the junior senator from Illinois and he is running for President.

Nancy says that interested and informed voters know where Joe Biden stands on the issues. After six terms in the Senate, we certainly know where he stands. Joe Biden stated Barack Obama was not ready to be President. And didn”t he also state, that he would be proud to run along side John McCain. Whoops, maybe I shouldn”t mention that he “flip flopped”. I guess the most cynical thing that John McCain did, was not choosing Joe Biden as his running mate.

I agree with Nancy we do need our president and vice president to be well versed and competent in all issues, for all Americans, not just the ones who believe as they do, and I happen to believe, as an interested and informed voter ? that President, will be John McCain. And behind every strong man is a strong woman.
