UPPER LAKE — The Northshore Warriors varsity and junior varsity squads scored a one-two knockout of the Hopland Bears during Pop Warner football action on Sunday at Upper Lake High School.
The varsity Warriors improved to 2-0 with a 25-0 victory, while the JV Warriors won 31-20 in their season opener.
In the varsity contest, four different Warriors scored touchdowns. James McCloud put Northshore on the board with a 35-yard run up the middle and Ward Beecher added the conversion run (one point in Pop Warner) to make it 7-0.
The Warriors went up 13-0 on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Duncan to Beecher, then increased that lead to 19-0 on a Beecher 44-yard run.
Northshore”s final score came on a 27-yard run by Nicholas Bills.
Gage Deheer had three tackles and picked off a Hopland pass as part of Northshore”s defensive effort. Duncan, McCloud and Beecher each had five tackles to lead the team, and Connor McVey had four.
The Warriors had 282 yards of total offense, 219 on the ground.
In the JV game, Mike Martinez and Steven Savage played a hand in all five of the Warriors” touchdowns. Martinez scored the first two on runs of 25 and 20 yards, then he passed 11 yards to Savage for the team”s third TD.
Savage scored the final two touchdowns on a 70-yard kickoff return and a 10-yard run.
Jeremy Doss scored on a conversion run following Martinez”s second rushing TD.
Andreaus Santos had two big catches, one for 22 yards and the other for 23, to help set up Northshore scores.
Martinez anchored the defense with two sacks and four tackles.
The Warriors hit the road Saturday to play Anderson Valley in Boonville. JV kickoff is 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game follows.
