LAKEPORT — Osvaldo Rojas” goal late in the second half snapped a scoreless deadlock and lifted the Kelseyville Knights to a 1-0 North Central League I interlock varsity boys” soccer win over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon in Lakeport.
Jesse Arroyo picked up the assist on Rojas” game-winning kick, one that Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma called a “lucky shot.”
Kelseyville improved to 3-0 with its second victory in six days over the Cardinals (0-5), who dropped a 5-3 decision last Thursday in Kelseyville. Worse than the loss, an already short-handed Clear Lake squad may have lost one of its top players, Robert Anderson, for the remainder of the season with a broken arm.
Anderson and Kelsey-ville”s Tony Castellanos were playing a ball when the two got tangled up and Anderson hit the ground.
“They went up for a ball shoulder to shoulder,” Ledesma said. He (Anderson) landed on his arm and it looked like the arm got pinned behind him.”
Anderson was transported to Sutter Lakeside Hospital.
Ledesma said it appeared the Cardinals were playing for a draw in their rematch with the Knights.
“They had everyone back on defense, it was hard to get through,” Ledesma said.
Rojas finally did.
“It was a nice shot, but it was one of those lucky plays,” Ledesma said.
