KELSEYVILLE — St. Helena scored on a long shot late in the second half to snap a 2-2 tie and beat the Kelseyville Knights 3-2 in North Central League I interlock varsity boys” soccer game at Kelseyville.

It was the first loss of the season for the Knights (3-1), who tied the game at 2 early in the second half on a goal by Oscar Martinez.

“It was a nice shot,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said of the Saints” game-winning goal. “The first two goals we gave them, but the last one came on a nice play.”

St. Helena led 2-1 after the first half, taking advantage of a couple of breakdowns in the Kelseyville defense, according to Ledesma.

“We made a few mistakes that gave them two goals, but otherwise we did a pretty good job,” Ledesma said. “It was a really good game, a tough game. We had most of the shots (on goal), but they made more than we did.”

Osvaldo Rojas, whose goal on Tuesday beat Clear Lake 1-0 at Lakeport, scored in the first half for Kelseyville.

Ledesma said he couldn”t single out the performances of any one of his players against the Saints.

“The whole team played smart, played a good game,” Ledesma said.

The Knights are home Tuesday to play Upper Lake at 6 p.m.
