CLEARLAKE — Knights of Columbus Council No. 7899 will host its annual “Festival of Life” dinner and silent auction on Sunday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 14435 Uhl Avenue in Clearlake.
Dinner will be served promptly at 6 p.m.
Festival of Life is a fundraiser supporting pro-life choices.
Proceeds from the event will be directed toward organizations that encourage “the right choice for life.”
According to Grand Knight Ed Stockman, Knights of Columbus believe life to be one of the most precious gifts bestowed upon mankind.
“Number one, we respect life. We are a Catholic men”s organization and life is very important to us. We believe that helping pro-life organizations will help improve our community”s quality of life and standard of living,” Stockman said.
“Our motto is basically charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism and supporting these organizations falls into that.”
Stockman said that there is a lack of support for pro-life organizations within society at present.
“There are few public agencies and little public support for these types of agencies so we need to do something to encourage this type of effort in our community,” he said. “We hope the trend catches on.”
The Knights will be joined by keynote speaker Barbara Meyers, executive director of the Center for Life Choices in Ukiah.
Meyers will speak about the center”s mission and explain its services and how those services benefit the clients. “We are thrilled with the support of the Knights of Columbus and we are so grateful for their commitment to the pro-life effort,” Meyers said.
“They put feet to faith. They walk their talk.”
Meyers said she will be sharing some exciting news about the clinic.
“We have recently converted from peer counseling services only to a California licensed primary care medical clinic,” Meyers said.
“Because of this newly licensed facility, we are able to offer limited obstetrical ultrasounds. All of our services are confidential and free-of-charge to all our patients.”
Meyers said she will also be sharing anonymous stories about center clients and how they have benefited from services at the Center for Life Choices.
A speaker representing Rachel”s Vineyard, which is a national organization assisting women with post-abortion trauma is also expected to address those in attendance.
Tickets, which will be available at the door, are priced at $18 apiece. Dinner menu includes spaghetti with marinara sauce, roast beef, salad, bread, desert and wine.
Silent auction bids will close one-half hour after the dinner.
There are many great prizes to be won including a medical doctor eye exam including prescription if need, valued at $275.
Auction preview will be open to the public from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to one-half hour after the dinner on Sunday.
