CLEARLAKE PARK — Parkwoods Homeowners Association presented three plaques on Friday in appreciation of contributors who have been significant in keeping the Parkwoods Pool open to the community. Representatives from Foods Etc., Four Corners Builders Supply and Napa Auto Parts were on hand to receive the recognition.
“These contributors have been a great help in keeping this pool open,” said Steffanie Darr, association president. “After the passing of Merle Adams (former association president) in 2007, it”s been a real struggle keeping this pool open.”
Parkwoods Pool has been in existence since 1976. At one time, membership was open to those living within the Clearlake Park area. In order to better serve the community, membership was opened up to all people living within the entire Clearlake area.
According to Darr, the pool has been a benefit for many and it is the desire of the association to continue this service to the community. “We want to let people know that we are still here,” Darr said. “This pool is helping the kids, the disabled. One lady lost 70 pounds just swimming in the pool.”
The property that houses the pool and recreation center was donated in 1972 by Patricia Lewis and John and Ruth Dillingham. According to association documents, the pool was constructed in 1976. Use had been limited to those residing in the Clearlake Park area. However, when association members took a closer look at incorporation papers, Darr said they realized that the purpose of the association was to promote activities within as well as throughout the vicinity of the Clearlake Park area.
Due to the discovery, membership was extended in 2007 to include residents throughout the Clearlake area for the betterment of the community. As a result, membership was extended.
Those on hand to receive the plaques honoring their community-minded support were Lamont Kucer of Foods, Etc.; Jessie Boyd of Four Corners Builders Supply; and Tim Boyce and Aaron Kranich of Napa Auto Parts in Clearlake. Joining the presentation were association members and volunteers Phyllis Cole, Julia Boyd, Edna Adams, Barbara Miller and Steffanie Darr.
The 2008 pool season is nearing its end. However, Darr said the pool will remain open as long as there are people using it. For more information regarding membership or volunteer opportunities, contact Edna Adams at 995-4024.
