KELSEYVILLE — In a defensive battle that saw no shots on goal for the first 25 minutes, the Middletown Mustangs emerged with a 2-0 victory over the Kelseyville Knights on Thursday in a North Central League I North girls” soccer game at Kelseyville.
Middletown (2-0-1, 10-1-1) finally broke through with first-half goals by Brittany Cash, who broke up the scoreless deadlock, and Missy Deno.
“It was a fairly evenly matched game,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said. “Kelseyville has girls with good skills, girls that hustle and don”t give up. They”re not a team to be taken lightly.”
Kaitlyn Agapoff assisted on Deno”s goal, which gave the Mustangs some breathing room at 2-0.
“We played at times well, other times we didn”t,” Kelseyville coach Mark Andre said. “Maybe it was what they were doing to us.”
Andre said the Knights need a better effort when they travel to Middletown on Oct. 28.
The loss leaves Kelseyville at 2-2 in the North standings and 4-6 overall.
