PETALUMA — Katie Reynolds” setting paved the way for a 25-8, 25-9, 25-13 Clear Lake High School varsity volleyball victory over the St. Vincent Mustangs on Tuesday in Petaluma.

“She”s really setting well right now and that”s why were hitting so well,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said.

Jesse Sondag recorded 16 kills in the best-of-five match and Briana Butcher added seven kills and nine service points. Rylie Gabehart led the Cardinals, now 2-0 in the North Central League I South standings, with 15 points.

Another standout for Clear Lake was back row specialist Kaila Sterbank.

“Her passing is phenomenal,” Psalmonds said. “And she also had three kills.”

In other volleyball action Tuesday:

Kelseyville def. Lower Lake

At Lower Lake, Kaitlyn Goff”s 25 kills powered the Kelseyville Knights to a 25-16, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23 win over the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I North play.

“They just weren”t little piddly over-the-net kills,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said of Goff”s power up front. “They were down-on-the-floor kills. She was on top of it.”

Goff also had 17 digs and two aces as the Knights beat the defending North champions in the first of two league meetings this season.

“The girl was on tonight,” McCallister said.

“She had a fabulous night,” Lower Lake coach Danessa Udy said. “She gets up and hits it so quick, it”s hard to block. We were lucky to get a hand on it.”

Other standouts for Kelseyville were Skyler Olsen with five kills and 11 digs and Kendra Schwegerl with seven kills.

McCallister also praised the play of libero Sarah Johnson.

“I could name them all,” McCallister said. “The team pulled together tonight.”

McCallister also had high praise for the Trojans (1-1).

“Lower Lake was tough ? they”re a good team,” McCallister said.

Kelseyville is 3-0 in league play.

Renita Gilliam led the Trojans with 11 kills and four blocks and Darlena White added seven kills and three aces.

Middletown def. Fort Bragg

At Fort Bragg, after waiting around a couple of hours for officials to arrive, the Middletown Mustangs beat the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 25-18, 21-25, 27-25, 25-7 in NCL I North action.

Middletown improved to 2-0 in the North standings and will travel to Kelseyville on Thursday night to play the 3-0 Knights.

“It was a slow start after a long ride up there,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said. “And then the girls had to sit around (waiting for the game officials). It was pretty rough.”

Kayla Woods” 12 kills, six aces and three blocks powered the Mustangs. Kelsey Guzman added eight kills and a block, Jessica Boylan had six kills, four aces and a block, and Jen Emberson helped out with six aces.

“We struggled with our passing game,” Breiner said.
