CLEARLAKE — The Clearlake City Council recently extended its appreciation to Edward Strohmeyer, of Strohmeyer”s Plumbing, for his donation of time and labor to repair the bathroom facility at Austin Park. Mayor Curt Giambruno presented Strohmeyer with a proclamation of appreciation recognizing his valuable contribution to the community.

“The efforts of Strohmeyer”s Plumbing is a great example of how the efforts of citizens to benefit their community can make our City a better place to live,” the proclamation states in part.

Strohmeyer said he had learned that repairs were desperately needed in time for a special event that was planned at the park. “I wanted to help my community and help the people in need,” he said. “I was informed that repairs were needed prior to an event that was being held at Austin Park to celebrate people”s recovery from dependency. I thought it was important to get the work done before that event.”

Strohmeyer said he had also heard how visitors to the city had often commented on how the bathrooms were in need of major repairs. He said another reason he chose to contribute to the project was to help better the image of the city.

“Mayor Curt Giambruno contacted me and we discussed with city staff whether the best approach would be to tear the facility down or make the necessary repairs to keep it clean and presentable for the community. We decided that repairs could be made,” Strohmeyer said.

Strohmeyer said that in meeting with City Administrator Dale Neiman it was estimated that materials would cost roughly $2300 and labor costs had been undetermined in the beginning. “Labor costs ended up being around $2000 and so I thought this would be a good opportunity for Strohmeyer”s Plumbing to contribute to the wellbeing or our community,” he said. “It was my privilege and enjoyable honor to do so.”

Strohmeyer commended the support he received from his service and repair technician. “Scott Deveraux contributed greatly to the project and supported me wholeheartedly in this endeavor,” he said. “I couldn”t have done it without him.”

Strohmeyer also praised Public Works Supervisor Doug Herren for his efforts in the project. “Doug Herren was very instrumental as well” he said. “He tackled this project when his hands were very full taking over the duties of Jim Hale (former Public Works superintendent). Doug really put his best efforts forward to make this project happen.”

Repairs have resulted in improvements to the facility”s infrastructure as well as its appearance.
