Lakeshore Bait & Tackle was the victim of an attempted burglary early Wednesday morning, Oct. 15. Along with fishing gear, the store also carries guns and ammunition, which owner Bob Rider said he thinks the suspect(s) may have been after.
Rider reported that no merchandise was taken. He said that the guns and ammo are stored in a vault when the shop is closed and that he believes when the suspect(s) heard the alarm sound and saw that the gun cases were empty, they quickly fled the scene.
“They came in looking for the handguns but they didn”t get anything because they are locked in a vault at night,” Rider said.
Rider commended the quick response of the Clearlake Police Department as well as the service provided by West Alert private security company. “We had a glass break at 3:52 a.m. The cops were here in 35 seconds and the alarm system worked flawlessly,” he said. “This is what you get when you have a responsible business owner, a good alarm company and an effective police department: the suspect was foiled in his attempt.”
Rider believes that an arrest in connection with the incident is possible. “We”ve got video and physical evidence from the scene,” he said. “It is possible the evidence could lead to identifying the suspects in this case.”
Damage was limited to glass breakage from the front door as well as from display cabinets.
The Clearlake Police Department is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the department at 994-8251.
