Some Clear Lake Riviera property owners may not yet have voted on the Benefit Zone proposed by Lake County Public Works. To them, I say vote “yes”, and for some very good reasons.
We can be sure our roads will be in first class condition when the work has been done, and we can be certain that the work will be done. Look at the results of a benefit zone program in Buckingham and Riviera West. The Benefit Zone plan guarantees that the money will be spent on our roads, and not on any other project.
Some who oppose the plan point to Lakeport as an example of money set aside for a project but not spent for it. Lakeport”s set aside was general fund money that could be and was spent for other necessary projects. Poor Clearlake never has been able to set aside money for its streets.
Take a look at the condition of Clearlake”s streets and you can see what will happen in Clear Lake Riviera if the Benefit Zone fails.
Only a Benefit Zone offers an opportunity to fix our roads at a discount. Property owners will pay only two-thirds of the total cost, and Public Works will pay the other one-third. To protect our property values and make our streets safe to drive on, vote in favor of the Benefit Zone.
