MIDDLETOWN — The big showdown was a big tie — again.
Fort Bragg scored on a free kick in the final minute of play to tie the Middletown Mustangs 1-1 in a North Central League I North varsity girls” soccer game Thursday at Fort Bragg, the second time in league play the two schools have tied.
Both teams are 4-0-2 with two North games remaining and would meet each other in a playoff should they finish the regular season tied in the standings.
Taylor Sloan”s goal in the 64th minute gave Middletown a 1-0 lead that held up until the 79th minute.
“We played really well,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said. “The girls came together and did a great job.”
Natalie Diaz had the assist on Sloan”s goal. Diaz”s play in the midfield and Amber Preusser”s and Kaitlyn August”s play on defense stood out for Middletown, according to Owens.
In other girls” soccer action Thursday:
St. Vincent 4, Clear Lake 1
At Petaluma, St. Vincent scored all of its goals in the first half to beat Clear Lake in NCL I South play.
Kathleen O”Rourke scored in the second half for Clear Lake (3-2-1 South, 12-7-2 overall).
“We played really well in the second half,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said. “St. Vincent didn”t back off.”
Upper Lake 3, Willits 2
At Upper Lake, Tanya Carter scored twice and Yessica Ayala added a goal and two assists as Upper Lake won its final home game, beating Willits in NCL I interlock play.
Upper Lake standouts were Laura Wold, Jacklyn Smith, Jaclyn Eubanks and Amanda Wright, according to Upper Lake coach Ana Santana.
Kelseyville 3, Lower Lake 1
At Lower Lake, Lower Lake turned in one of its best efforts of the season but still lost to the Kelseyville Knights in NCL I North action.
Mayra Nava scored Lower Lake”s goal.
Monique Santana, Sam Ledesma and Amanda Horne scored Kelseyville”s goals.
Boys” soccer
St. Vincent 4, Clear Lake 1
At Lakeport, two big mistakes by the Clear Lake defense helped St. Vincent beat the Cardinals in NCL I South boys” soccer action.
“St. Vincent scored on two set plays from corner kicks,” Clear Lake coach Brian Figgs said. “We did not cover it. In baseball you”d call it an error.”
Robert Anderson scored an unassisted goal in the first half for Clear Lake (1-4-1 South, 5-12-1 overall).
Kelseyville 8, Lower Lake 0
At Kelseyville, Ivan Rodriguez had a hat trick and Oscar Martinez scored twice as the Kelseyville Knights shut out the Lower Lake Trojans, who had just one shot on goal.
Kelseyville improved to 4-3 in the North standings and 8-4-1 overall.
Fort Bragg 4, Middletown 0
At Middletown, Fort Bragg shut out Middletown in NCL I North play, dropping the Mustangs to 1-4-1 in the league standings.
All of Fort Bragg”s goals came in the second half.
