My story is about a stray cat. You think that would be easy. First, I called Animal Control. They said to put the cat in a trap and call the next day, which I did. A female asked where I live. I told her 40 Clear Lake Ave., Lakeport. She said, “Oh, no. We are only for county stray cats and dogs.”

I told the lady that my son had put the cat in the trap at 6 p.m. the night before, the cat needed to be picked up and I wanted to know who was going to take care of it. She told me to call the Lakeport Police Department. The woman at the Lakeport Police Department said that someone will be there in the next hour. I waited approximately three hours. The cat was meowing loudly.

I called the police department back and they said the police chief would not allow any assistance. It”s not their job. I asked why no one returned my call. They didn”t have an answer. So, after calling Animal Control and the Police Department I tried the Humane Society. The cat was still in the cage. The lady there said she couldn”t do anything for me.

She did suggest that if you want anything done, call Melissa at the Chamber of Commerce. I did. She called every council member with no response from any of them. She was telling me this over the phone when a woman and her daughter from Kelseyville walked into the chamber office. The woman said she had a friend on Scott”s Valley that has a ranch.

Those people came and picked up the cat and later returned the trap to the Chamber of Commerce. Thank you! I know the County gets millions of dollars of taxpayer money. I assumed Lakeport is part of Lake County. Why not pick up a stray cat in Lakeport?
