Voting against Proposition 8 is actually a vote for old English style judicial monarchy, communist style government control of religious practice, and a minimizing of voter”s already shrunken power over government legislation.
First of all, Prop 22 was passed by a majority of voters in a democracy ? the very idea that four judges can overturn the will of a majority of voters based on their own beliefs and thinking is disturbing to say the least. Since when did we become a country for the judges, by the judges and of the people?
Secondly, the very idea of marriage is a strictly religious one stemming from beliefs that a creator made a man and a woman to procreate and populate the earth. It”s essentially the same in every religion.
So seeing that marriage is a religious activity, a commitment between a man and a woman to procreate and raise a family, the government has no right to regulate who can or cannot marry. That choice should be solely up to the couple and group doing the marriage.
Lastly, why do people keep insisting that it will have no effect on schools or churches when everyone knows the lawsuits that will come from churches refusing to marry gay couples according to their belief systems?
Forcing a church to marry a gay couple is a violation of their first amendment right. School children, also, are already being subjected to the influence of gay marriages as well as teaching it in states where it”s already legal.
In my opinion, we should all stop being so ignorant. Homosexuality is not a medical condition; just ask the thousands of former die-hard gays who are now die-hard straights; genetics doesn”t just change like that, nor are homosexuals any less worthy or good than non homosexuals. The judges who overturned the will of the people should be held accountable, and the people who are fighting so hard for marriage should stop and think why they really want it so badly.
On the other hand, to the Christian activists who hold up the signs that we all know about (God Hates … signs) should realize that God does not hate homosexuals (Romans3:12, John 3:16) and you are no better or worse than anyone else.
