Mike Duman rushed for three touchdowns and Nick Rodriguez added a career-high 161 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown as the Kelseyville Knights pulled away in the second half for a 33-14 victory over Lower Lake in a North Central League I North varsity football game on Friday in Kelseyville.
Kelseyville (2-1 North, 4-3-1 overall) outscored Lower Lake 19-0 in the second half to snap a 14-14 halftime tie.
Lower Lake (0-2, 0-8) almost scored to take the lead in the final seconds of the first half, but Michael Bell was tackled inbounds at the Kelseyville 1-foot line and the Trojans didn”t have any timeouts left to stop the clock.
Duman sandwiched scoring runs of 4 and 13 yards around a Rodriguez 2-yard run in the second half to put Kelseyville comfortably in front.
“I was much happier with the way we played in the second half,” Kelseyville coach Thad Owens said. “I felt like we played with more consistent football and that”s what I”m looking for.”
“We”re making glaring mistakes and we can”t overcome them right now,” Lower Lake coach Stan Weiper said.
It was Weiper”s first game at Kelseyville since leaving the Kelseyville coaching job after the 2006 season.
Chris Perry and Roy Percoats had touchdown runs in the first half for Lower Lake. Kelseyville countered with TD runs by Duman and Troy Davis.
Perry had 105 yards on 21 carries for Lower Lake.
