In a game where tempers flared and penalties flew right and left, the Upper Lake Cougars beat the Willits Wolverines 35-8 in a North Central League I interlock varsity football game on Friday night in Willits.
Upper Lake (4-3) snapped a three-game losing streak while Willits fell to 0-8 on the season.
Cougars quarterback Brandon Mendoza passed for one touchdown and ran for two others as Upper Lake, tied 8-8 at halftime, scored 27 unanswered points in the second half. Running back Joe Barnes finished with 112 yards on 16 carries.
