LOWER LAKE — A season of turmoil for the Lower Lake High School varsity volleyball team, just one year removed from winning the North Central League I North title, ended on Tuesday with the announcement that the Trojans would forfeit their final two league matches.
Lower Lake was scheduled to host Willits on Tuesday and then travel to Middletown on Thursday for its season finale. Lower Lake coach Danessa Udy told the Record-Bee on Tuesday that the Trojans are forfeiting both matches.
“It”s for disciplinary reasons,” said Udy, who has had repeated problems with a group of players all season.
“I probably had a choice (to finish the season), but after I say ?one more incident and we”re done,” and there”s one more incident, I have to stick to my guns.”
Udy said she felt sorry for the players on her team who did obey the rules.
“I have a few girls who have been wonderful all year,” she said.
The veteran Lower Lake coach said 2008 has been her “worst season” because of the situation with a number of players.
“It was not pretty,” Udy said.
Just a year ago, led by MVP Amber Shoffeitt, the Trojans unseated Kelseyville as NCL I North champion by winning the title. However, the lost of several seniors to graduation, including Shoffeitt, obviously hurt the Trojans in more ways than one.
With the two forfeits, Lower Lake closes out league play at 2-6.
