MIDDLETOWN — Middletown voters have elected incumbent William Wright and newcomer Sandy Tucker to serve as trustees of the board for the Middletown Unified School District. According to results reported by the Lake County Registrar of Voters Office, Wright garnered 26.8 percent of the vote while Tucker was elected with 21.9 percent.
Wright reportedly obtained 1,365 votes to earn him re-election to the school board, which he has served on for the past 12 years. “I would like to thank everybody who supported me in my run for re-election and I hope I can live up to the expectations of our community,” he said. “I would also like to thank the rest of the candidates who ran for office in this election. It symbolizes their interest and desire to be involved in our schools and community.”
Wright said he is looking forward to contributing to the improvement of the district. “I”m anticipating moving forward with our new elementary school and high school remodeling projects. In order to expand our educational opportunities for our students we must focus on the future of our district and its accommodations. Support of Measure X has given us the ability to do that,” he said. “I look forward to working with our community, our teachers, our staff and fellow board members to provide as many educational opportunities as we can for our students. I see nothing but improvements in the future of our district.”
Tucker received 1,117 votes to gain victory in the election. She has been a member of the Middletown community for the past 18 years and said she is looking forward to continuing her community service as a trustee of the school board. “I”m very excited to have the opportunity to work with this board and I am extremely appreciative of the support that I”ve received,” she said. “I have served with three of the current board members on other boards and it”s always been a positive experience. So, I am looking forward to working with them again. I think we can continue the good work that the board is already doing and continue to best-prepare our students for their future. In the next four years, I would like to see more students graduating having completed all their requirements to go on to a four year college.”
Tucker, who has children in high school and middle school, said she is also looking forward to contributing to the progress of Measure X projects. “We had a bond passed a couple of years ago so we have funding to build a new school and improve facilities,” she said, ” and I am looking forward to working on those projects.”
